Gus the Goofy Gopher is a story about a nearsighted, hyperactive gopher. He often runs through the tunnel impulsively doing flips, which as a result causes frequent cave-ins. Gus's parents and siblings are tired of his behavior. His hyperactivity has caused friction in the family. His mother perceives that while his impulsiveness has caused problems, his energy just needs to be channeled in more constructive ways.
He befriends a fragrant rose and becomes her protector. He begins eating all of the weeds around the rose. His family can't understand why he is eating the weeds and not the good plants in Mrs. Day's garden. But that's why his name is Gus the Goofy Gopher.
Gus's humility makes him a good leader, and hyperactivity is nothing to be ashamed of. It may even come in handy some day.
