Scruffy and the Big Blue Pond

In this delightful children's book, mother cat is out hunting food. She has told her kittens to stay hidden, but their older brother, who thinks of himself as older, smarter, and of course better looking, goes out anyway. Kittens being kittens, the rest follow. It's all fun and games until the leader evokes a roar of laughter from his siblings when he falls into the big blue pond (a children's wading pool).

As the story unfolds, it is this cat who finds favor with the couple who own the big blue pond. He trusts them; and in return he is given love, attention, food, and a name: Scruffy. In time, he accepts them and is satisfied with his life.

Inspired by her grandchildren, Susan "Gidge" Dreher wrote Scruffy and the Big Blue Pond to instill family values that are all too often missing in our modern world.
