Like the original two-volume work, the Supplement is a guide to genealogical monographs which can be found in the Library of Congress and other libraries. It is also a guide to the Library's own index to genealogies in sources not primarily genealogical in nature and a guide to the unique collection of non-printed genealogies held by the Library, other than those in its Manuscript Division. Its unique listing of genealogies is achieved by placing family names together which are pronounced alike, or almost alike, even though there are differences in spelling, providing the researcher with a fool-proof look-up method.
