James Wilson, signer of the federal constitution and one of the most influential leaders in the formative period of the republic, has been the only great figure of his age to be without a biography. As a consequence his name is virtually unknown to the general public. It was in the task of framing a sound government for the republic that Wilson, one of the principal theorists of federalism, made his greatest contribution to the future welfare and stability of his country.
