Charles Tubbs never went to war, it was through his friends that the war came alive. This work synthesizes over 175 letters that Tubbs recieved from 17 friends who fought for the Union. Accompanied by the author's narrative, the letters divulge the ravages war inflicts on men's minds and hearts.
