Born in 1882 in Hyde Park, New York, Franklin Delano Rooseveltentered public service through the encouragement of the DemocraticParty and won the election to the New York Senate in 1910. He thenbecame the assistant secretary of the navy, as well as the Democraticnominee for vice president in 1920. It wasn't until 1932 that he waselected President of the United States and took on the task of restoringfaith in the American public after the economic devastation of WorldWar I.
