Diaspora for Development in Africa

MIGRATION PRESENTS SIGNIFICANT untapped potential for development. The diaspora of developing countries can be a potent force for development through remittances, but also through the promotion of trade, investment, and knowledge and technology transfers.

Diaspora for Development in Africa aims to consolidate research and evidence on these issues with a view to formulating policies in both sending and receiving countries. Policies to maximize the benefi ts of the diaspora are presented in this book, including the following:

• discussing the importance of getting to know each country’s diaspora
• understanding the role of embassies so that they can be equipped to provide services for promotion of trade and investment
• analyzing how the diaspora can contribute to the transfer of technology through peer reviewing, conducting joint research, teaching, and mentoring.
