Conrad's Prefaces to His Works

Conrad's long, detailed prefaces to his works furnish the factual background upon which he based his works of fiction. This collection of the prefaces provide the reader with the author's rationale for each story. An introductory essay by Edward Garnett, his editor, provides yet another side to the story of how Conrad came to write his novels, and, possibly as important, elaborates on the influence of the editor on the final result.
