Pooling Health Insurance Risks

Pauly (health care systems, Wharton School, U. of Pennsylvania) and Herring (Ph.D. candidate at the Wharton School) investigate the extent of risk pooling in private health insurance markets in the United States. The primary focus of the study is the existence and form of differences in the way risk is treated in the three different settings of individual or non-group, small-group, and large-group insurance settings.
