Dare County: A Brief History

Dare County is one of North Carolina's largest counties, although almost three quarters of its area is covered by water. The land area includes Roanoke Island, site of the first colonization efforts on the East Coast, and the Outer Banks, site of the Wright Brothers' first successful attempts at powered flight.
