Description
1988. 2nd Edition. Many changes in law and practice affecting ship's business, thus necessitating his revision. Shipping commissioners have been abolished and Congress has enacted a partial revision of Title 46, U. S. Code (Shipping), to name two of the more significant changes.
Because merchant shipping is more closely regulated by government these days, the various certificates that prove compliance with the many applicable laws, conventions, and regulations are increasingly important. A new chapter, "Documents and Certificates, " has been added to give an overview of the more important papers necessary to the operation of a seagoing merchant vessel.
The ubiquitous hand-held calculator, once almost unheard of aboard ship, is now commonplace at sea. For this reason, the conversion tables found in the first edition have been omitted from this revision. Instead, a single table of conversion factors has been retained. With these factors and an electronic calculator, the reader can readily make any desired conversion.
