Focus in Grade 3: Teaching with Curriculum Focal Points

NCTM's Focus books are designed to show teachers and other educators how to organize mathematics instruction around the Focal Points in the Council's influential Curriculum Focal Points for Prekindergarten through Grade 8 Mathematics. Each book fleshes out the Focal Points with practical strategies and samples of student work. This new book shows teachers and others how to organize instruction in grade 3 around the three Focal Points that Curriculum Focal Points identifies for this grade level. Practical suggestions support focusing on learning basic multiplication and division facts, understanding fractions and fraction equivalence, and describing and analyzing two-dimensional shapes.
