When we decided to have a grooming school, we felt the most important consideration was the welfare of the dogs our students would be working on. After one and a half years of experimenting, we worked out a grooming technique we feel is safe and sure -a method to revolutionize grooming. This is a method anyone can follow, whether he is the owner of one dog, doing the grooming at home, or a profes¬sional who has been grooming for years. So many of our new customers complain about how someone else had "butchered" their dog. There are ways to hold the clipper and scissors so the grooming is completely safe. Using our method correctly, almost anyone can groom without cutting, nicking, or causing clipper burn.Groomers not only have injured dogs, but some have also "butchered" them in another sense by grooming incorrectly for the particular breed. A typical remark we hear is that someone had groomed a dog to look like a Poodle, when the dog was definitely not a Poodle.It is very important for anyone planning to groom to know the correct way to groom the individual breed or breeds he is interested in. With show dogs there is absolutely no room for mistakes. Grooming could represent the difference between winning and losing. Correct grooming, however, is equally important for pet dogs. An owner wants his dog to look the way a dog of that breed should look. We feel there is not enough written about the correct groom¬ing of many breeds. The person who owns a dog should know how to care for the dog properly at home. Some people do all of their own grooming, while others rely on the grooming salon.
