📖 Description
Ceramic matrix composites are under intense investigation internationally to find their useful application in higher temperature structures, particularly in aerospace and fracture toughness are well known. Ceramic composites on the other hand provide greater capabilities in strain tolerance, fracture toughness and strength characteristics. As a result, interest in processing, microstructure, analysis and design applicaions continue to evolve for this class of composites. The continuous fibre CMCs are aimed at applications into higher performance components in the propulsion system. On the other hand, the whisker-reinforced CMCs have a broader application range in the industrial and automotive area. This volume discusses processing advances and application experience by a number of researchers. In addition, the microstructural and mechanical behaviour of CMCs are presented as a complementary section. These papers present a coherent view of some of the recent advances in the field.
