By and for the People: Constitutional Rights in American History : A Project of the Organization of American Historians Ad Hoc Committee on the Bice

A joint publication venture with the Organization of American Historians. Eleven original essays (commissioned by the OAH Ad Hoc Committee on the bicentennial of the Bill of Rights) address the historical background and the increasing importance of the various protections embodied in the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Particular attention is given to analyzing the way specific provisions of the Constitution became subject to differing interpretations. Contemporary controversies involving these rights underscore their relevance for Americans today. A short annotated bibliography including approximately six books and several journal articles is provided at the end of each chapter. The text of the constitution and all 26 amendments are reprinted in the appendix.
