This book of historical geography provides the first detailed examination of the initiation, development and decline of the unique cultural landscape created by the Community Doukhobors in Saskatchewan between 18l99 and 1918. The book considers the factors influencing the location of the original village sites, and describes the form and pattern of the villages and fields; traces inter-village, inter-reserve, and inter-provincial movement and village consolidation as it became clear that direct conflict with the government was unavoidable; and identifies and analyzes the values which prevented some compromise between the Doukhobors and the government which would have eased this conflict.
