Description
"This album of Fiji is a photographic and text tour of the islands as seen by James Siers after more than 20 years of close association. The photos reflect everything that Siers finds attractive about the country and its people, while the text shows some of his pre-occupation with Fiji's past. James Siers has earned a well-deserved reputation for his work in the Pacific, having produced pictorial books on New Zealand, Hawaii, Samoa, Tonga, Rarotonga, Moorea, Tahiti and Papua New Guinea. This is his fourth book on Fiji. Earlier this year saw the publication of his The Fiji Experience, a 144-page color pictorial guide book. James Siers's interest in the pre-history of the South Pacific and its settlement led him to organize a daring expedition in 1976. He commissioned a large voyaging canoe to be built at Tarawa, Kiribati, and sailed this down to Lautoka. The next year, a new canoe built in Fiji, set out on a voyage to Tahiti but never reached its destination. It was broken by a storm south-east of Niue Island and Siers, his 10-year-old son Conrad and a crew of five others spent two weeks adrift in a liferaft before being rescued by a passing ship..."
