Two Draft Essays from 1918

These two drafts essays capture the 21-year-old Scholem's thoughts on two novels: Eduard Mörike's Nolten the Painter, and Rainer Maria Rilke's The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge. This is the first translation into English of these two excerpts from Scholem's diaries of 1918. Included are notes by the translator W. C. Bamberger.
