Description
Greek Painted Pottery from Naukratis in Egyptian Museums
American Research Center in Egypt Catalogs Volume 7, 1988. 210 pages of text and catalog, including 5 full pages of vessel profiles, 73 full pages of sherd and vessel drawings, and an additional 85 full page Plates of sherds and vessels described in the catalog. Hardcover.
As with all ARCE publications, this excellent volume is useful to both the scholar and the collector. According to Herodotus, ancient Naukratis was the only city in Egypt (in the Late Dynastic Period) in which Greek merchants were permitted to settle and trade. Late 19th and early 20th Century excavations uncovered great quantities of Orientalizing, Black Figure and Red Figure pottery now housed in museums in Alexandria, Cairo and elsewhere. This volume is in "like new" condition.
