Light at the End of the Tunnel

Philip Larsen is a movie celebrity consumed by an obsession he cannot divulge to anyone. His desire to uncover the secrets of his past brings him to psychotherapist Marion Orswig and together they start a journey, both through dreams and reality, which leads them from New York back to World War II Germany, Mengele's laboratory in Auschwitz, then to contemporary Vermont, and finally to an ancient manor house in Wales.

The flashbacks to the horrors of World War II have a different twist than most books of the era, as they are seen through the eyes of Larsen, grandson of an I.G. Farben industrialist (running slave labor camps at Auschwitz), as well as family members involved in Von Staufenberg's famous putch against Hitler.

Starting at the onset of the Gulf War, with descriptions of Saddam Hussein and the atmosphere in Baghdad, as witnessed by a New York Times correspondent, Light At The End of the Tunnel is especially relevant for our time.
