Statues On The Hill: The Remarkable Story Of Baughman Park

On an isolated hilltop in Muskingum County, Ohio, ten stone statues stand forgotten, hidden by the woods that has grown up around them. Presidents Washington, Lincoln, McKinley, Garfield, Grant, Harding and Theodore Roosevelt are there, as are Civil War generals Sherman and McPherson as well as a WWI doughboy. These are the sculptures of Brice Baughman, an undertaker and self-taught stonecarver. Between the late 1800s and early 1900s, Brice carved these larger-than-life statues out of native sandstone. Now, a century later, the park and Brice's unique statues have all but been forgotten. "Statues on the Hill" brings this story alive with over 100 photographs and illustrations.
