Colored, Negro, Black: Chasing the American Dream

In response to his own children's interest in how things used to be, Watson has decided to recount the story of his life. From his close-knit family and his demanding school, he learned to accept nothing less than the best. His growing outrage at racism, whether displayed by the government or hoodlums on the street, fueled his determination to see that no one was unfairly excluded from the change to succeed. As an educator, he has inspired and encouraged countless numbers of students: as a foundation executive, he has helped channel millions of dollars to the most needy citizens; and as an advisor to business and political leaders at all levels, he has opened doors of opportunity for many, many people.
