The Lost Journals of Michelangelo

Michelangelo's journals might have been found behind his wine kegs in the basement of his house in Rome by his nephew and heir, Lionardo. Lionardo might have kept the journals hidden for many years. However, now that they have come to light, are they authentic or just a figment of this writer's imagination? Michelangelo may have written such a journal documenting his life. From his secure and creative life in Settignano, to his journey in Florence from a crowded home where he shared a bed with his brothers to the palace of Lorenzo Medici where he was treated as a prince, to his last fifty-six years which were fraught with frustrations. In these latter years he dealt with a succession of Popes, the rise and fall of the Medicis, two tombs- one in Rome and one in Firenze - each of complexity enough for any one human lifetime, and frustrating frescos in the Sistine Chapel , interspersed with the architectural challenges of the New Sacristy and Florentine Library in Firenze, and then with St. Peter's in Rome.
