Description
This is the "bible" of guide books regarding Baxter State Park and Katahdin. It is in its Sixth Edition and is constantly being updated. The last was in the summer of 2009.

The book is 268 pages of the most comprehensive information base about the Park. Baxter Park was first established in the 1930's as a wilderness park by donations from the former Governer of Maine and philanthropist, Percival P Baxter. It now has grown to over 209,000 acres of prime mountain wilderness, located in Northern Maine.

The guide book contains sections on Park history, Indian leagons, Indian place names, geology, birds and animals in the Park, where to see moose, campgrounds, backcountry campsites, streams and ponds in the Park and of course, the 226 mile trail system that reaches the peaks and ponds. It also tells the traveler how to book reservations, which you will need if coming to the Park during peak season in July and August. BOOK SPECS
