Description

In this busy world of family and friends, people and places, business and politics, we often find ourselves so preoccupied with the demands of daily living that we drift away from that which brings true Light. One day we suddenly realize that despite all of our efforts to fulfill our calling and be productive members of society, we are residing in darkness. We have lost our way to the Light or perhaps never quite found it. This happened to me when I retired from my career as a scientist and university professor. Once the din from career multitasking quieted, I felt a great void, an emptiness that cried out to be filled. This void was a consequence of my failure to grow as a Christian while I was busy growing in all other facets of adulthood. Thus, I set out to investigate what I had missed along my walk. The investigation took me to the writings of C.S. Lewis, Billy Graham, Leslie Weatherhead, Gordon Fee, Lee Strobel and many others and produced this book that is part inspirational, part Christian apologetics, and part religion and secular culture. It is focused on a journey a journey which all of us who wish to reside in the Light must take. Along the journey, many aspects basic to the central tenets of Christianity are reviewed through the eyes of a scientist. Other issues are also encountered which challenge the Christian who is seeking general truths about the faith. Is the Bible Word of God or the words of God? Is the Holy Spirit active in our lives today or is He more appropriately called the Holy Ghost of apostles past? Some involve issues where secular culture intersects the faith. Are religion and science always at odds or do they both involve a great deal of faith? Are creation and evolution reconcilable? During the journey, one question recurred frequently. Why have so many drifted away from the church and organized religion? Are we losing our faith because we encounter creeds and doctrines that we cannot embrace? Have we retained our faith but failed to mature and thus, have become the lost lambs of the Church? Who will disciple these lost lambs? In this book I have attempted to apply my formal training as a seeker and a doubter to review these controversial issues in a simplified, non-denominational form that is readily understandable to the reader. It is hoped that this book will persuade the reader that the journey, although difficult, is one worth taking especially after discovering the traveling companion that God has provided for us. It is a journey that in the end will lead to the Gate of Heaven where God awaits His children.
