As the first AmeriCorps novel, I Wanted Sunshine But Ran . . . Sideways is a humorous look into a middle class girl's experience working with underprivileged students.

The AmeriCorps experience was transforming. I learned to appreciate a lack of educational opportunities many people live with everyday. However, the path was rather bumpy and painful. Part of that was due to the constant shuffling of new staff where I worked. As a recent college student, I did not understand the bureaucracy and why things changed all the time. But I also met my boyfriend and my crazy roommate. I wrote the book in a humorous style to show how AmeriCorps changed my life in many ways.
