100 Heroes: People in Sports Who Make This a Better World is a celebration of the past 20 years in which the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS) has embraced education, diversity, community service, and leadership and is a commitment to do so for years to come. For 20 years the NCAS has been seeking individuals who exemplify the meaning of our mission to "create a better society by focusing on educational attainment and using the power and appeal of sport to positively affect social change." This book combines the inspiring tales of student-athletes, professional athletes, athletics administrators, civic leaders, coaches, parents and more who have had a great impact on sport and society, many in the face of adversity and discouragement. The life stories of these 100 heroes challenge racial divides, reinforce the importance of education, and shed light into the social responsibility of athletic figures.
