Description

The book's website is: www.non-existentgod.com . ¶ Is there a religion for UnBelievers? This book presents NON-EXISTENTGODism as a POSITIVE RELIGION, and consequently Atheists, Freethinkers, Secularists, and others can now, if they choose, call themselves NEGists—including those now ready to leave their “Closet of Unbelief.” ¶ This book also invites Christians in particular (also Jews and Muslims somewhat), the opportunity better to understand, psychologically, why they believe as they do. (Of course, Supernatural Faiths do NOT want their followers fully to understand WHY they Believe—but just TO BELIEVE, and not be tempted by doubt lest they leave the fold!) ¶ Although, if “People of (Supernatural) Faith” (the author was one once) ask too many pertinent questions they do run the risk—if they are honest—of losing their Faith because analysis, knowledge, and comprehension leads to truth. Thus this can be a dangerous book for Christians—only those who feel their faith is fervent enough should endeavor to read it, particularly because it includes Nietzsche’s powerful psychological dismantlement of Christianity. In other words no feeble-faithed Christian should even attempt it. ¶ Overall, this book is an exposé of traditional religions within the presupposition that Supernaturalism is nothing more than superstition, which operates as a significant force outside of full human awareness. By bringing religion’s hidden premises into complete consciousness people are liberated from their Blind Faith fantasies, and consequently recover the power they have turned over to other “religious” people and institutions. What they regain is personal Freedom, which permits finding genuine personal meaning and purpose in life. ¶ The larger issue this book also addresses is the path of our species toward extinction. Proponents of Supernatural Faiths want to persuade the world that BELIEF in “God” (“Yahweh” | “Allah”) is the solution for the problem of our long-term survival on this planet, because “Creator God” will not permit humanity to perish. However, if there is no “God”—if there is only “NON-EXISTENTGOD”—then the reality is that our destiny rests ONLY with us, all seven billion people on this planet, in a cosmos of some ten trillion billion stars. The “God” idea consequently is not the “solution” to our earthly fate but is the BIGGEST problem! A quote from the book: “It is only with the functional elimination of the concept of 'God' that humankind will take FULL Responsibility for the destiny of human life on this planet.” (p. 487). ¶ This book has 722 pages plus an 11 page index, and includes a Letter to Galileo, Jesus, and Nietzsche—it ends with Rules for Living in the form of "Twelve Prescripts." ¶ Rev. James Wentz is a retired Unitarian Universalist minister; he lives on Long Island, New York. ¶ The book's website is: www.non-existentgod.com .
