Only two people of stature and authority respect Don Milkey, private investigator. One of them is murdered, and the other one did it. Tracking down the killer is the job of Donald Milkey and Associates, a business enterprise that is a work of fiction in its own right. Helen, Don's girlfriend and associate, carries no weapon, but asks questions with the finesse of a 12-guage shotgun. Garcia serves as Milkey's right hand man when he is not fixing the plumbing in their apartment building. Don's young nephew and technical advisor, Jake, can get into any place in the world, except a bar. There are other helpers with lesser resumes. A less-than-professional staff, an absence of a business office, a budget supplemented by his part-time security jobs, all appear to be limitations to the Milkey and Associates investigation. But not much in this detective novel is as it seems. Indeed, to Milkey, he has sufficient resources for the job.
