Polly the Polled Hereford

Trudy Jo Hahn Snader lives on a farm in New Windsor, Maryland where she dries flowers, grows vegetables and enjoys her grandchildren. Her meadow has been a home to Snader cows since 1864 when her Victorian home was built by Elhannon Englar, her late husband's great grandfather. In the 1970's her father bought polled Herefords for his two grandsons to show at the Carroll County 4-H Fairs. They had been showing dairy steers. Later his granddaughter, Kimberly, carried the tradition much further, showing in other state fairs, including Pennsylvania and Kansas. She has had champions, first in showing, and many blue ribbons. As a recent graduate of Francis Scott Key High School, she has taken over the herd and manages feeding, breeding and daily chores. Her interest is agribusiness, as well as a sideline of meat raised on the farm. Trudy previously published a book in 2012, We Missed Dessert, a commentary on the family's journey thru her late husband's years with early Alzheimer's.
