Speak English with me

"Speak English with me" is a step-by-step program, that began as an idea, then became a button, and is now this book which will give your school a plan to increase conversational English fluency faster and easier than ever before. Most teachers and parents will agree that today’s English Language Learners – our most at-risk students – face multiple hurdles every time they walk into a classroom, regardless of the subject they are learning. But the question, “How do we increase the conversational English fluency of our English Language Learners?” is the elephant in the room. Many current ESL programs are trying to answer the question. Unfortunately, they are failing to come up with practical solutions that will demonstrate significant improvement of oral fluency levels within this most vulnerable student body. Can a student graduate from a US high school without having achieved proficiency in spoken English? Sadly yes, because it happens every day. While statistical estimates may vary the accepted numbers demonstrate that roughly fewer than 25% of all high school students achieve scores to signify overall readiness for college work in English, math and science. None of this is news to today’s teachers, and like many educators I personally believe the number is actually much lower than 25%. Additionally, those who have been teaching a decade or more have seen a serious decline in skills acquisition particularly in the area of conversational English by all students. The goal of "Speak English with me" is to change these statistics. In fact, the goal of the program is to introduce a whole new way of looking at how English Language Learners - or learners of any language for that matter - can achieve success when adding a new language to their repertoire of oral communication. Speak English with me outlines a step-by-step formula to push your students’ English speaking ability (fluency) to the highest possible level. Whether students are consciously aware that we are overtly promoting English, or unaware that we are covertly slipping English in under the door via a stealthier approach is unimportant. The program works both ways. Regardless of the approach, the mission of Speak English with me is to convince students that spoken English is critical to their well being and happiness, and that success cannot be achieved without becoming proficient (and fluent) in its usage. Self-discipline, instruction, procedures, policies and motivation are dominant staples of all teachers’ repertoires, but kids need more. They need to be given a “walk to walk” when learning to speak English. They need immersion, engagement, and competition. That is what the SEWM program is about. This program offers a new take to an old problem using a unique solution.
