This is a book of selected problems from an algebra-based PHY-131 course taught at Baldwin Wallace University by Dr Edwin F Meyer. It is 8.5 by 11, spiral bound and more than 250 pages with 59 problems. The purpose of the book is to help a student succeed in an algebra-based physics course. The main reason why students struggle in physics is that physics requires the least knowledge and most thinking of any subject. The way to succeed in physics is not by studying the equations, it is by solving problems. A common lament from physics students is, "I understand the material, but I can't solve the problems on the test." This is due to lack of problem solving skill, which is a result of a lack of practice. This book provides the "playing field" upon which the student can develop the necessary problem solving skills. In fact, every one of the problems were specially selected for their ability to challenge the student's ability to think independently to solve problems. All of the problems come with complete solutions. The solutions describe the thought process needed to understand the fundamental physics of the problem. No steps are skipped -- including the algebraic manipulation of equations. Topics covered include 1 and 2 dimensional motion, forces, circular motion, conservation of energy and momentum, statics, simple harmonic motion and some thermal physics.
