The solution should not be used for more than three or four batches of potatoes, unless corrosive sublimate is added each time. The best results are secured where a fresh solution is used after each three or four batches have been treated. However, this may be impractical in cases where it is hard to get water, and in such cases corrosive sublimate may be added to the old solution. It should be added at the rate of y2 to % ounces to each 30 gallons after every 4 bushels have been treated. This is on the basis of the hour treatment. If the 30 minute period is used then only Vs ounce should be added for every four bushels treated. This addition should not be made more than 4 times and then a fresh solution must be made up. For convenience, a stock solution of one ounce of corrosive sublimate to one quart of water can be made up. When sublimate is added care must be taken to have the solution made up to its original volume. The solution should not be used if it has stood overnight, for it weakens on standing. Dirt weakens the solution rapidly and consequently the putting of excessive amounts of dirt in 4. The Length of Treatment. While y2 hour has been commonly used with general satisfaction, it should be remembered that the kind of season has much to do with the control of potato tuber borne diseases. One-half hour is satisfactory where potato seed is planted in soils that are light and sandy and warm up quickly in the spring, but in heavier soils which do not drain or warm it up as rapidly, it is much more advisable to treat the seed iy2 hours. Seed treatment is an "insurance policy," therefore it should be thorough. These diseases spread rapidly from traces of organism that remain on the seed. ...
