In 1764, made a baronet. In 1765, governor of Greenwich hofpital, which he refigned, being appointed commander in chief at Jamaica in 1771, and rear-admiral of Great Britain. On his way out to command at the Leeward Illands, in 1780, he took the whole of the Caracca fleet. A few days afterwards he defeated the Spanifh fleet under Don Juan de Langara, whom he took prifoner, with four fail of the line, deftroyed three, and difperfed the reft. Relieved Gibraltar and proceeded to the Weft Indies, where he fought feveral deiperate battles with the French. In 1781, took St. Euitatia and all the Dutch illands. Returned home, made a knight of the Bath. In 172, he again was lent out to the Weft Indie's. On the 12th of April, the fame year, defeated the French fleet; took its commander in chief, the Comte,de Graffe, prifoner, with four fail of the line, and deftroyed one. For this he w as railed to the peerage, and made vice-admiral of Great Britain. In 1783, granted a penfion of 20001. a year. Died 24th May, 1792. 1761. H. R. H. Prince Edward Augnftus, Duke of York" and Albany, was a midfhipman under Commodore Howe, at the taking of 6f Cherbourg, and the defeat at St. Cas, in 1758. Captain' of the Phosnix, of 44 guns, June 14, 1759. Rear-admiral of the blue, April 8, 1761. Vice-admiral of the blue, 1762;.and admiral of the blue, in 1766. Died at Monacco, in Italy, September 14, 1767. ' 1762. Sir William Burnaby, Knt. and Bart. commanded at the Leeward Iflands in 1763; and at Jamaica in 1771. Died in 1776.
