More than sixty steamship services plying out of Galveston to the various ports of the world insure excellent service. The port is served by two regular coastwise lines to New York. Galveston has nine banks some of which are rated as the strongest financial institutions in the South insuring the best handling for commercial paper. The more important exports are cotton, cottonseed products, sulphur, oil, wheat, and other grain, breadstuffs, lumber, and food stuffs. Imports consist principally of crude oil, sugar, sisal, tobacco, chemicals, earthen ware, print paper, plate glass and similar commodities.
