Not illustrated. 1898 Excerpt: ... on behalf of such company any bill of exchange, promissory note, indorsement, cheque, order for money or goods, or who issues or authorizes to be issued any bill of parcels, invoice or receipt of the company, wherein its name, with the said word as the last word thereof, is not mentioned in manner aforesaid, shall incur a penalty of two hundred dollars and shall also be personally liable to the holder of any such bill of exchange, promissory note, cheque or order for money or goods for the amount thereof, unless the same is duly paid by the company. (6) This section shall not apply to any company not having Proviso, gain for its purpose or object, where such company by its charter of incorporation is declared to be exempt from the provisions thereof, or to any company not having gain for its purpose or object, which, on proof thereof being shown to the Lieutenant-Governor in Council, is, on, from and after a date to be set forth in the order of the Lieutenant-Governor in Council in that behalf, declared to be exempt. 60 V., c. 28, s. 22; 61 V., c. 19, s. 3. (7) In the case of companies incorporated before the thir-companies inteenth day of April, 1897, this section shall not take effect so fSre as to render any such company or the directors or officers April, lsw. thereof liable to the penalties or liabilities hereby imposed by ation "Ltd." reason of such company using the abbreviation "Ltd.," or any other abbreviation of the word "Limited," or to companies lawfully incorporated without the word "Limited" forming part of the name or style thereof, until after the first day of January, 1900; but this shall not relieve any such company from any penalty to which it would have been liable prior to the passing of the Act ...
