Lemuel Edward 8, b. in Granville, Mass., Aug. 5, 1828, was an engineer on the Boston and Albany R. R. for several years until 1865 when he went to Chile, S. A., where he remained ten years as a railroad master-mechanic. Returning to the United States in 1875 he soon located at Sauk Centre, Minn., where he bought a hotel of which he was proprietor until his death, May 6, 1897. For about ten years he was superintendent of water-works and chief of fire department of Sauk Centre. He m. (1), in Westfield, Mass., Oct. 19,1854, Harriet E. Thayer, b. in Belchertown, Mass., about 1834, d. at Sauk Centre, Minn., in Dec., 1887. He m. (2), at Sauk Centre, Minn., Sept. 8,1890, Elizabeth KerkHoff, b. in Madison, Wis., Nov. 29, 1863, daughter of Conrad and Catharine A. (Wanner) KerkhofT; in 1903 she removed to Denver, Col., where she is still (1909) living. Children by first marriage: 1. A Son 9, d. in infancy. 2. A Son, d. in infancy. 3. William D., b. in Springfield, Mass., July 16, d. there Aug. 13, 1862. Child by second marriage: 4. Frances Evelyn 9, b. at Sauk Centre, Minn., May 29, 1891, r resides (1909) in Denver, Col. ii. Henry Lyman, b. in Salisbury, Conn., Nov. 13, 1829, was a shoemaker and farmer and resided in Barkhampstead, Hartland, and East Canaan, Conn., Sheffield, Mass., and finally in Ludlow, Mass., where he d. Dec. 6, 1868. He m. (1), in Westfield, Mass., Feb. 7, 1852, Fluvla Case, b. in Canton, Conn., Jan. 5, 1831, daughter of Freeman and Sibyl Case; she d. in Sheffield, Mass., Jan. 8, 1866. He m.
