This instrnment covered a length of 10"; one end was secnred to the flange of channel-har A, and one end secnred to the inside eye-plate. The post lias a sharp hend at the middle, the channels hnckled slightly. Post removed from testing-machine and pins placed throngh pin-holes in wehs of channels. Post now tested with pins vertical. Maximam distortion of the channel-hars took place at middle of the colamn, where intersecting "Cooper lines" were developed in diagonal lines, and also in lines at right angles to the axis of the colamn.
