Russell, Secrétaire de la Légation des Etats-Unis Vapeurs. v Caracas, a informé le Ministère des Affaires Etrangères que la Compagnie de Vapeurs, Hamburg-American, a établi un nouveau service au Venezuela. On a construit deux vapeurs pour ce service, qui feront le service mensuel, à partir du 15 février 1899. Voici l'itinéraire: Hamburg, le Havre, La Barbade, La Trinité, Ciudad Bolivar, Carûpano, Curnana, Guanta et Maracaïbo. Les vapeurs sont construits spécialement en vue du commerce de Maracaïbo et de Ciudad Bolivar. Ils ont un déplacement de 1,237 tonnes, une force de 500 chevaux vapeur, une vitesse de 9 nœuds à l'heure et ils jaugent 1,800 tonnes; ils ont un tirant d'eau de 9 pieds pour 600 tonnes de cargaison et de 11 pieds pour 950 tonnes, et un réservoir d'eau d'une capacité de 374 tonnes.
