We shall close this brief, but painful statement against the celibacy of the clergy, with the two following well authenticated occurrences, which will show that crimes, numberless and of the deepest die, result from this unnatural and wicked law of the Romish Church. In 1836, a priest of Djjpon, department, Cotedbr, yr' De la Collonge by name, after living a long time with a young sempstress, smothered her one night, cut her body into pieces and hid them in holes in his house. This occurred in France in the beautiful province of B#urgoane. By the B,ff interference of the bishop, the murderer escaped the punishment of death and the exposure of the pillory, lest the body to which he belonged should be dishonored, he was quietly sent to the galleys. The following case is still more atrocious. A priest named Mingrot being unable to seduce a female, killed her, and then, dishonouring the dead body, cut it in pieces and dispersed the fragments. He fled to Piedmont for protection. Her brothers published the almost incredible account by the title--"To the Brothers of the Female Victim." The Courier and the Constitution, despising the rage and vengeance of the Papal Hierarchy, published a history of this outrage on humanity, by which they deserved and obtained the approbation of the friends of morals and true religion. Europe shuddered at the crime. When there am no inquisitive Protestants and free press, what glorious times the priesthood had I How they must have enjoyed themselves!
