Throughout. I have made full use of the testimony and the language of others, because I prefer to use their words rather than my own. I have, so far as I could, avoided all questions of momentary political strife, believing that whatever may be thought of the present aspect of the Eastern question, most persons, be their party predilections what they may, will sympathize with the Montenegrins in their heroic struggle for independence and freedom of religious worship. In addition to the description of the physical aspect of the country and the institutions of its people, I have given a brief sketch of the history of Montenegro, which, without possessing any claim to research, will be,' I imagine, new to most readers.
