The Lay of the Cid

Rodrigo Diaz de Bivár, better known as El Cid ("the leader") was Spain's first national hero, an eleventh century warrior whose conquests liberated the fatherland from the Moors. The Lay of the Cid concentrates on his relationship with King Alfonso VI of Castile and relates events from his exile from Castile in 1081 until shortly before his death in 1099.
