Readings in the Economic History of the United States (Volume Two)

This is volume two of a two-volume set. Originally published in 1916, this two-volume collection of documents and essays spans from 1583 to 1915. It provides a unique reference source for original materials that are nearly impossible to find independently. As the editors said at the time of original publication: "The purpose of this book is to supplement the more systematic text book and lectures of a college course on the economic history of the United States. This material has been drawn from contemporary sources; in the later periods official documents have been used. Where controversial matters have been treated, every effort has been made to present both sides fairly. Agriculture, manufactures, tariff, commerce, transportation, money and banking, labor, and the movement of the population have been given due emphasis in the panoramic picture here unfolded. " At the time of original publication Ernest Ludlow Bogart, Ph.D. and Charles Manfred Thompson, Ph.D. were both of the Department of Economics at the University of Illinois.
