Description
This book is based mostly on primary sources such as telegrams, confidential diplomatic letters and treaties from 1920 to 1939-40. These documents have been obtained from the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of Archives. The documents were in French and Romanian. They have been translated as closely as possible into English. The book examines how Romania under the influence of internal and external factors moved from a democracy to dictatorship before World War II. Silent fear manifested as gossip, over analyzing, assumptions, and distrust pulled Romania and the other Balkan States into war.
