Home is the Sailor, Home from the Sea

Home is the Sailor is the life story of a true "man of the sea." Erich Richter went to sea in 1898, where he survived shipboard explosions, scurvy, treacherous Cape Horn and more. He became a licensed sea captain, was a British POW during WWI, and an American Merchant Marine Commander in WWII. He was torpedoed in the Mediterranean and received the Meritorious Service Medal for his heroism.
