Mindset of the Melancholy

Do you know those types of people who are just plain happy? No matter what happens, they always go around with a smile on their face, smelling the roses and petting the small dogs that life throws at them. John Doe is not one of those types of people. He is of the melancholy variety, the type that goes about bemoaning the roses and small dogs, who lives only because there seems to be nothing better to do, and to whom misfortunes just seem to be attracted. But when he goes off to Typical State College, his views begin to lighten up a bit through the help of his friends, his enemies, and things even more depressed than he is.
