Sunrise At Cotulla: A Novel About Texas Women In The Near Future

In the year 2012 a group of women set about to reform the political system in Texas after the state legislature passes draconian laws that trample on the civil liberties of women and gays. The women face a docile and apathetic electorate, a powerful state law enforcement apparatus, a hostile judiciary and a news media dominated by tabloid sensationalism. An unlikely person assumes the role of leader of the reform movement after tragedy and personal blunders abruptly alter her life. Along the way she becomes aware of her sexuality and strengthens her religious faith. The story takes place in many Texas locales-from the state legislature in Austin and the county courthouse in Galveston, to Marfa and the Rio Grande River valley. Outside Texas, events unfold from Union Square in New York City to Jumpertown, Mississippi. Sunrise at Cotulla combines alternative history, historical fiction and future fiction spanning the period from 1848 to 2014.
