Mykl, a severe bi-polar suffering from Multiple Personality Disorder, lived most of his adult life in psychiatric institutions. Like others who suffer with similar afflictions, he was as gifted as he was mad. As he lay dying, he summoned me to his bedside. "There is no value in any life," he said, "lest there be treasure in its living." Then he thrust some tattered pages into my hands and whispered, "Learn from my mistakes." As I fled the crowded hospital I was unaware of the pages I mindlessly carried. Had I realized the fact, I would have discarded them immediately. But I didn't, and I am glad, for upon arriving home, weary and perplexed, I sat down and began to read. Unlocking his most private thoughts I came to understand that Mykl was as brilliant as he was insane. It has been arguably stated that genius and madness can be represented by similar definitions, that each are born of unusual perspective.
