Saving Chrystal

The senseless murder of George Grant's wife does more than bring grief to his family: it isolates George from his four grown children. For ten years George's isolation grows until his only remaining contact with the outside world is the mail carrier. But when 12-year-old Chrystal Pierce crosses his sidewalk one cold, September afternoon, George can't ignore her plight. Concerned by the girl's obvious poverty, ignorance and neglect, George overcomes his years of bitterness to reach out to her, partly as penance for his failures as a workaholic father, and partly because he senses she's desperately reaching out for help. George has to overcome the girl's fear of something he can't begin to understand. As he learns snippets of her story, his fear for her grows. When he hears chilling screams late at night, he calls the police, who tell him that they can find no evidence that the girl even exists. Desperate for the girl's safety, George decides to take matters into his own hands-a move that places him, the girl and everyone he cares about in the greatest danger of their lives.
