"Americans in the Crosshairs, Terrorism in the Twenty-First Century," is an up-close and personal description of modern-day terrorism. The author lived in Guatemala during the late 1970s and early 80s, when some 200,000 civilians were killed by the Guatemalan Army, and thousands of others were killed by leftist guerrillas. Hundreds of his friends and colleagues were killed and dozens were tortured. He helped hide some of his friends and spirited others out of the country through a modern underground railroad. His own life was threatened--twice. Since then, the author has traveled through more than 90 nations, interviewing thousands of people who have suffered from genocides and civil wars or who have lived in black holes and failed states.
